Exploring Willamette Mission State Park - Gervais OR.

Our sixth bird walk took us to Willamette Mission State Park, where a ranger guided us toward a peaceful wooded trail leading to the Willamette River. During our three-hour family adventure, we explored the rocky beach, watched playful squirrels, and identified ten bird species, including the Downy Woodpecker, Cedar Waxwing, Northern Flicker, and Steller’s Jay.

From spotting Steller's Jay and Evening Grosbeak—two new birds for our season—to walking beneath a beautiful forest canopy, crossing a peaceful creek, enjoying free wild blackberries and plums, and exploring the park's updated pickleball and tennis courts, this family adventure reminded us that some of Salem's best nature experiences are hidden close to home. 🌿🐦🍇🌳
